I found your ad for a on Craig's List and would like to be considered for the job. I am a long-experienced sales engineer with primary experience in digital imaging, storage and production systems. I have supported sales teams working with companies ranging from mom and pop to Fortune 100. I excel at needs analysis, financial modeling and writing proposals and am comfortable writing and delivering presentations at all levels. These skills, combined with a mature ability to support a sense of teamwork among sales, implementation and the client insure a reliable implementation convince me that I will be able to make an excellent contribution to Vignette.

In addition, I am an experienced web developer. As an independent, I have written a number of content management solutions along with e-commerce, social networking and customer service systems. A favorite project was a DSL provisioning support system that coordinated a complex retail process by communicating with customers using structured email messages and with vendors using XML. It reduced customer service hours spent supporting installations by 50%. At R.R. Donnelley and Sons, I designed and ran the software team that created networked data management system driving production data flow for a multi-million dollar digital imaging system.

Selling a complex product with an consultative approach requires technical acumen but also sensitivity to the processes and priorities of the customer. Rigorous follow through and strong communication skills are basic but success comes from a pleasant demeanor and the ability to be seen as an advocate for the client. Being able to make complex topics simple and comprehensible is where deals get made and customers develop loyalty.

These are skills that I have developed in my years of, first, acting as technical liaison with Donnelley's large publishing clients and, later, in long years as a technical sales support rep.
